About Richard Wilson Guitars
Our Story
Richard Wilson Guitars is a boutique workshop based in Brisbane, Australia, dedicated to the design and construction of hollow-neck Weissenborn guitars.
Each instrument is built entirely by hand by Richard Wilson, from raw timber through to final setup. With more than 500 guitars crafted over 22 years, the work is defined by a consistent focus on lightness, responsiveness, and the tonal character that has come to define the modern Weissenborn.
These instruments are played, recorded, and toured internationally by leading artists including Ben Harper and Jacob Raagaard, and are held by a growing base of collectors and players worldwide.
Built in limited numbers, each guitar is individually numbered and produced with a singular aim: to realise the full potential of the Weissenborn design through refined craftsmanship and considered material selection.
About Richard Wilson
The Luthier
Richard Wilson is an Australian luthier specialising in Weissenborn guitars.
His work began with a single instrument, drawn to the distinctive voice and singular design of the Weissenborn. Over more than two decades and 500 instruments, this has evolved into a focused body of work built around refining the form.
Each guitar is built personally by Richard in his Brisbane workshop. Every piece of timber is selected and shaped by hand, with an emphasis on precision, restraint, and long-term tonal stability.
The result is a contemporary Weissenborn defined by clarity, responsiveness, and balance—built for serious players.
