About Me
Master Luthier Richard Wilson
The guitars I craft are my form of expression and hearing the beautiful music that they have helped bring into the world humbles me every day.
I always figured that less-is-more and that my guitars would speak for themselves, so I always avoided having an 'about me' page on this website. But after 18 years and more than 350 guitars later, I figure I should finally put pen to paper and share a bit about my journey...
It was the music of Ben Harper and that unmistakable Weissenborn tone which first brought me to the world of guitars.
It started with youthful enthusiasm that saw me leap blindly into my first ever guitar with zero woodworking experience. But I learnt quickly. I still have an impressive inch-long scar on my left thumb to remind me of that first lesson: tools are sharp.
I was surprised more than anyone that after toiling for a few months when I actually had a functional musical instrument. Six strings and everything! But I was hooked and no sooner had my first guitar been completed was I planning my second, third, fourth and fifth builds.
Though the workshop has become bigger -- from a small bench and some hand tools in the corner of a garage to a fully equipped workshop -- each guitar is still crafted from scratch by myself.
I flex, tap and feel every piece of wood, sanding, shaving and carving away fractions of a millimeter to bring out that iconic Weissenborn tone.
My affinity to this incredible style of guitar grows with each and every build, and it is my absolute honour and privilege to be able to bring these instrument to life for incredible players, artists, and collectors around the world.
Thank you.
